Jack Skellington Cake Topper

 Wednesday, December 1, 2010

Here's the latest creation! Nicki's nephew loves Jack Skellington and wanted a topper to go with his favorite cupcakes. I have attached the photo I used to construct Jack and the finished Jack. I couldn't figure out a way to make his suit pinstripes, so I left it black, but I have been pondering it and will one day find the solution. Jack is made out of candy clay with part of his jacket made from gumpaste. Happy Birthday and I hope you enjoy Jack Skellington, Nick!

Halloween 2010

 Sunday, October 31, 2010

This year has been exciting. Zachary has been so excited for Halloween that I installed a countdown on my computer and everyday we watch it. We have one for Christmas too. Zachary really loves Bakugan, so his costume was Dragonoid Bakugan. Remember the dragon cake I did, well that is the dragon that Zachary went as. Wyatt has fallen in love with The Mario Brothers games and so he went as Mario. This time we teamed up with our neighbors and played zone defense with the kids. Zach loves to play with our next door neighbor Cole, who went as Iron Man. Wyatt was really impressed with the house that was showing Scooby-doo!

Zach's Adenoidectomy

 Friday, October 29, 2010

Over the course of the past year we have had Zach in speech therapy to help with his speech. We have seen great improvement but have still noticed that he sounds very congested or speaks nasally. To find out why we went to an ENT doctor and had x-rays done. The x-ray confirmed that his adenoids were causing over 75% blockage. We were kind of stunned but did the next step and had them removed. On Monday, October 25, 2010 Zach went to the surgery center and had the procedure done. It has made a huge difference in his voice and his speech. He is also sleeping more soundly at night. It's great. Here are a few photos while we were waiting at the surgery center. He did really great and had no problems waking up from the anestesia. He got to keep the pink mask that he breathed into to go to sleep. He thinks its his dark vadar mask. You will notice in the pictures that he did not like having to wear the blue hair net.

Learning New Skills

 Wednesday, October 27, 2010

I am a 3rd generation cake decorator and have been reflecting on some family history. My grandmother who was very talented did all her cakes out of buttercream icing. She would pipe, lace and make all of the flowers from buttercream. Thinking about this made me realize that my buttercream decorating skills are not where they need to be. I realize that not everyone likes the texture or even the taste of fondant. We use an awesome brand of fondant that taste sweet and good, but it's not for everyone. This week was my mom's birthday and so I used it as an opportunity to work on the buttercream skills. This cake is definitely NOT perfect but good for a first try. It is vanilla pound cake filled with bavarian cream and decorated all in buttercream.

I look forward to progressing my skills so stay tuned for more updates.

 Friday, October 22, 2010

This week our cake request was for a Mystery Machine Cake from Scooby-Doo for a little boy's birthday. Cake options were a 2d or 3d version and the customer chose the 2d. This cake was fun to do and is very vibrant. The cake was made from 2 layers of vanilla cake with buttercream frosting. Happy Birthday Joshua!

The cutest pumpkin in the patch!

 Wednesday, October 20, 2010

Today was a fun day! My neighbor Elizabeth and I took the kids to the pumpkin patch for some fall photos. Wyatt didn't want to cooperate, but I was a little quicker and got a few good shots. All of you are going to be amazed at how big Wyatt is. He is growing in leaps and bounds. Two and half inches since his birthday to be exact.

It's Official....Wyatt's a Big Boy!

 Tuesday, October 12, 2010

We knew this day was coming. Wyatt has outgrown his crib and we found a good deal on a twin bed set for him. We took down his crib and changed a few decorations and now he has a big boy's room. He loves it. Wyatt had no problem transitioning to the big bed. It just shows how much he is growing up.

Bakugan Cake and Poker Chip Cake

 Thursday, October 7, 2010

This week Nicki and I did two birthday cakes. We did a birthday cake for a little boy who loves Bakugan. Sounds like Zachary but it was for another little boy. The second cake we were asked to replicate a poker theme cake. We had a lot of fun working on these and I am especially proud of the dragaon. I sculpted that using a candy clay that I made. I think it turned out great.

Star Goalie-Zach's first soccer game

 Sunday, September 26, 2010

Saturday was a big day for the Morris family. Air fest in the morning and Zach's soccer game at 11am. When we got to the soccer fields we had a lot of confusion. We couldn't find the team that Zach had been practicing with. We learned that we had been practicing with the wrong team. He had been with the first grade team and not his kindergarten team. Needless to say, we are much relieved to know he is with kids his own height and age. Zach had a good time and played goalie quite a bit. He is quite good and stopped several goals. He love it when everyone cheered for him and his coach picked him up and threw him in the air. Goalie is his favorite position so far.

Georgetown Air Fest

It's nice to find fun things to do in your hometown that are free. We trekked out of the house by 7:30am and made the Georgetown Air Fest Flight breakfast and then got to see all of the cool airplanes and helicopters on display. Zachary and Scott both were excited to see the Apache helicopter. Wyatt just wanted to run. These days that boy only has one speed and that is fast. I don't mind because then he takes a great nap. Every time we couldn't find something, Zach would tell us we needed a map and when we found a map he was sure to study it and point out where we needed to go.

We had a great time spending time in our community and as a family. We are definitely looking forward to fall and cooler temperatures.

Wyatt Loves Blues Clues

 Thursday, September 23, 2010

I have been trying to catch him singing the songs from the show, but every time I get my camera or phone he stops. Today I pretended to talk on my phone like it was on speakerphone and I was able to catch a snip-it of him singing. I will try to get more because he is so darn cute.

Up the Chisolm Trail

 Wednesday, September 22, 2010

On Saturday, Sept. 18 -19th, Georgetown celebrated Up the Chisolm Trail. It seems to be an annual event, and it was fun. The main event that I wanted to see was the cattle drive. I thought the kids would like it and the boys were fascinated by the long horns. We were pretty close and had a great view. We had lots of fun and will be looking forward to next year's events. The funniest thing that happened was Talon and Elyzabeth took Zach on a wagon ride and the gentleman running it told them to get their kid loaded. Talon laughed, and Elyzabeth was offended.

Georgetown High School Homecoming

Texas has a big tradition regarding homecomings. Making homecoming mums are a huge deal, so every year Nicki and myself make sure Elyzabeth has great looking mums. This year I got to make a garter for her boyfriend Talon. I don't quite understand the mum craziness, but I do enjoy making them. Here is the cute couple all ready for homecoming with their mums. In one of the pictures, little brother Zachary made a quick move and got into the picture. Gotta love him!

THANK YOU Nicki to always making sure we Elyzabeth has some great looking mums.

First Day of School

 Tuesday, August 24, 2010

This school year I have the opportunity of having 2 kids in school. Elyzabeth started her junior year of high school and big boy Zachary started kindergarten. Elyzabeth has been excited since she is now considered an upper-classman. Zachary is excited because he found out two girls from his pre-school class are in his class and sit at his table. We have been coaching Zach all weekend on who is teacher is and by Monday morning had no problems remembering it.

On returning home from school, Zach talked non-stop about reading, playing, and eating breakfast at school. He brought home a book they made and was able to read to Dad.
